It was great to be back working for the Host Medical Services in Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico. Everything about Mexico that Dr. Merepeza loves was there. Great friends (many colleagues that he has worked before with Mexico, Dr. Raul Castillo, Dr. Saul Luenga and others), great weather, great hospitality and the warmth of the Mexican culture! There were 31 countries and 5707 athletes that competed in 36 sports. Overall another great experience in Mexico.

Ms. Tracy Auld PT and Elizabeth Williams RMT participated at this important event as medical staff for the Canadian Women’s Sledge Hockey National Team. This was an exciting event as both were working with the team in such an event for the first time. Both enjoyed being part of this excitement and were proud of the team’s performance which placed second, only behind Team USA. It was a pleasure to work with the Team that was highly motivated and worked really hard.

They looked forward to the next event as they are now working for the team on permanent basis.

Congratulations to Liz and Tracy for a job well done!

On October 16-27, 2013 the World Weightlifting Championships were held in the beautiful city of Wroclaw, Poland. Dr. Merepeza was accredited with the Canadian National Team. The team consisted of four male and three female lifters and four coaches. The team did well and one female lifter, Dr. Marie-Eve Beauchemin-Nadeau form Quebec took sixth place. It was a very exciting competition and Dr. Beauchemin-Nadeau made a technical error that cost her the 5th place. She is a talented lifter and will certainly improve her ranking in future competitions.

Dr. Merepeza participated at these Olympic Games  as a fully accredited Chiropractor with the Albanian Olympic Team.  It was a very exciting event overall and it was exciting to be part of the Games once again.

Dr. Merepeza oversaw the whole delegation which had participants in many sports including athletics, swimming (both his favourites), judo, shooting, wrestling and of course weightlifting. The team did relatively well but came short of medals which they were expecting to win at least two. Caring for athletes  for a multitude of sports is exciting as you see different kinds of injuries and conditions however is also challenging because they train and compete at different venues and schedules. It makes for long days moving from venue to venue with each group of athletes. Overall it was a “spectacular experience” that he will remember for a “long time”.

XVI PAN AM GAMES

XVI PAN AM GAMES Guadalajara Mexico, 2011

Dr. Merepeza had the privilege to serve for COPAG medical services during these games. He, along with over 30 sport chiropractic specialists were part of the core medical team. It was one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences for him. The games were very well organized and the Mexican hosts were very friendly.

Dr. Merepeza had a chance to serve in a few venues such as Gymnastics, Aquatics, Basketball and his favourite, Track and Field. He got to use his Spanish language skills for the first time in his career in a clinical setting as he served athletes from a multitude of countries. He is grateful to FICS organization that invited him to be part of these Games.
